Phnom Penh's been quite busy recently, hasn't it? Word on the street is that some bigwigs from Myanmar came to visit. They apparently talked about a lot of things with our folks here, but the main point was definitely teaming up to fight those online scammers. Local media reported that both sides want to beef up their experience sharing, train more people, and set up a proper cooperation framework. These days, online scams are just out of control. So many people lose their hard-earned money in a blink, and everyone around town, from the markets to the coffee shops, is talking about it.
It wasn't just about scams, though. I heard they're also looking to boost cooperation on defense. The big shots even signed four agreements: one for investment protection, another to avoid double taxation, some updates to cultural cooperation, and a memo on information broadcasting. Sounds a bit formal, right? But basically, it's all about making the relationship between our two countries stronger and making it easier to do business. After all, who doesn't want their money to be safer and life to be a bit more stable?
Oh, and Myanmar also promised they'll be at the International Anti-Scam Conference happening right here in Phnom Penh in September 2026. So that's good. Beyond all that, they also talked about stepping up cooperation in education, culture, labor, and tourism. They're even thinking about direct flights to make it easier for tourists from both sides to visit. Imagine that, direct flights! It would be so much more convenient for travel. I bet the street food vendors would be thrilled, too – more tourists mean more business, right?
