On September 14, Cambodia Chamber of Commerce President Kith Meng met with Malaysian Ambassador to Cambodia Shaharuddin bin Onn in Phnom Penh for talks focused on boosting bilateral economic, trade, and investment ties. Local media noted that relations between the two countries have grown steadily stronger in recent years.
Trade figures have climbed rapidly. According to customs data, two-way trade between Cambodia and Malaysia topped $1 billion in the first eight months of this year, surging by more than 50 percent compared to the same period in 2023. While Cambodian exports to Malaysia saw the fastest growth, imports from Malaysia also remained strong, making Malaysia Cambodia's seventh-largest trading partner.
During the meeting, Kith Meng pointed out that Cambodia and Malaysia are approaching the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and invited Malaysian business leaders to visit Cambodia to explore investment opportunities. Meanwhile, the Council for the Development of Cambodia noted that a significant number of investment projects were approved in the first half of the year, with Malaysian investors accounting for a notable share of the capital.
