Phnom Penh’s Koh Pich buzzed with energy last weekend as the National Employment and Productivity Fair drew massive crowds both on-site and online, with nearly 50,000 people turning up in person to check out opportunities.
Altogether, 150 companies set up booths offering over 30,000 open positions, giving job seekers a chance to hand in resumes and interview on the spot.
According to the Ministry of Labor, roughly 20,000 people registered and submitted resumes over the two-day event, while employers conducted about 5,000 face-to-face interviews. In the end, close to 3,000 applicants walked away with direct job offers, while those who didn't land a spot immediately can still follow up later. Organizers also rolled out a new feature called the "Career Park," which helped young people print resumes and get career advice so nobody was left standing around waiting.
Local officials noted that events like this are designed to bring employment services directly to the people. Meanwhile, a representative from the International Labour Organization who joined the event reminded job seekers to brush up on their technical, digital, and communication skills, noting that the job market moves fast and continuous learning is always a plus.
