Every weekend, the Khmer Products Market in Kampot comes alive with locals and expats alike, all hunting for fresh fruit and vegetables. Regulars say shopping here means getting the real deal—food grown right by local farmers in the surrounding countryside.
Benny, an expat who is a familiar face at the market, says the fact that the produce is homegrown is the main draw for him. Another shopper, Boots, agrees, noting that the naturally healthy fruits and veggies give people peace of mind. He points out that more and more Cambodians are also making the trip to buy healthy food, a sign that people are paying much closer attention to what they eat these days.
Besides being fresh and natural, the prices are hard to beat. Colby, an American visiting the market for the first time with his girlfriend, was amazed to find he could get a whopping four kilos of bananas for just one dollar.
Running since 2019, the market was set up with backing from Ministry of Commerce projects. Its main goal is to help small-scale farmers sell their harvest directly to local neighborhoods, putting a little more money straight into their pockets.
