Myanmar's leader, Min Aung Hlaing, was in Phnom Penh recently. He was here for an official visit, staying two days, and met with our Chairman Hun Sen. Chairman Hun Sen, who's now the President of the Senate, is also effectively acting as Head of State.
They covered a lot of ground, and a big topic was the long-running border issues between Cambodia and Thailand. Local officials later told the press that Chairman Hun Sen laid out the border situation very clearly to Min Aung Hlaing. Basically, it's about Thailand always claiming encroachment and taking our land. Cambodia has always maintained that this needs to be resolved peacefully, strictly following international law. We can't just resort to force and grab land. Chairman Hun Sen stressed this principle repeatedly. He said that even though there are still disputes, we stick to the rules.
Min Aung Hlaing listened and expressed his full support. He said Cambodia's position on peacefully resolving border disputes was absolutely right, and he fully agreed. He also hoped the border situation would normalize quickly so everyone could live in peace and stability. What people here really want is peace and quiet, so they can get on with their small businesses, sleep soundly at night, and not constantly worry about trouble at the border.
