Things are starting to pick up in Kratie. Neth Pheaktra, a Cambodian People’s Party Central Committee member and head of the CPP working group for Kratie province, recently made a trip down to Chhloung district. He sat down for face-to-face discussions with local candidates preparing for the 6th Commune and Sangkat Council elections, alongside village-level party branch members.
Local media reported that the main goal of the visit was to rally the grassroots team, reorganize local operations, and get everyone pulling in the same direction ahead of the upcoming local polls. While commune elections don't always generate the same loud fanfare as a national campaign, they matter immensely on the ground—who gets elected to the local council directly shapes village life and development for years to come.
As always in Cambodia, you can feel the mood shift out in the provinces as election prep gets underway. In Kratie, amid the usual hum of roadside food stalls and motorbikes zipping through the district, seeing party officials head straight into the villages to hold informal meetings and hash out plans step-by-step is a very familiar, down-to-earth sight.
