Speaking at the Asia-Pacific Aviation Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Cambodia’s aviation minister shared that the country is pushing ahead with major airport upgrades to align with international standards. The main focus is on key hubs in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville, getting them ready to handle a higher volume of international flights.
Local media reports that Cambodia’s airport infrastructure is now better equipped to connect the Kingdom with the broader Asia-Pacific region and beyond. While international passenger numbers dipped slightly over the first eight months of the year, air cargo volume saw a solid bump during the same period.
Officials noted that Cambodia is partnering with international aviation organizations to sharpen its technical standards, building momentum toward its long-term 2050 development goals. Currently, 33 airlines operate in the country, linking Cambodia to destinations across Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East.
