On Wednesday, the Council for the Development of Cambodia’s investment committee sat down with a pair of U.S. firms—Almasons Consulting and Turning Point Retail Solutions—to explore potential tie-ups in digital technology and modern industry.
The meeting skipped the usual red tape and got straight to business. Local officials walked the visitors through the government's investment incentives, making it clear they are keen to pull in American capital to build up the local tech and digital sectors.
Walk down any street and you will see young people glued to e-commerce apps and mobile payments, but dig a bit deeper and the foundations for modern industry and digital transformation are still pretty thin. The government is scrambling to bring in foreign investment to fill those gaps, though whether this meeting translates into actual projects on the ground remains to be seen.
