It was blazing hot in Phnom Penh on Saturday, but the Digital Economy Business Committee (DEBC) kept things practical with a hands-on training session for roadside vendors and small-business owners on how to use their smartphones for business.
The course, officially called Digital Economy Application Basics, skipped the high-tech jargon and focused instead on teaching people how to run their businesses straight from their phones.
The lessons were straightforward and down-to-earth, covering how to run ads on Facebook, design graphics using Canva, and set up digital payment systems. These days, if you are selling fruit juice or running a small stall on the street, relying purely on cash and shouting out to customers just does not cut it anymore.
Local media reported that the initiative aimed to give small vendors a helping hand so they could catch the digital wave. Making a living on the streets of Phnom Penh under the hot sun is never easy, but learning a few new tricks might just help them sell a few more iced coffees.
