Some victims are held and beaten in Bangkok or other cities, then sold to border scam compounds where passports are seized. Most are Chinese, but other nationalities are now targeted.
The report recalled the 2025 case of Chinese actor Wang Xing, lured to Thailand for a film job and moved to Myanmar.
