It was just getting dark on Friday evening in Takeo province’s Tram Kak district when the trouble started. A local man got into some kind of argument with his wife, lost his temper, and ended up stabbing her multiple times. By the time family members rushed over to see what was happening, she was already lying in a pool of blood, and the husband had slipped away and vanished.

Panicking, the relatives hired a car and rushed the victim straight to Phnom Penh, heading straight for Ang Duong Hospital for emergency treatment. Under the bright lights of the city hospital's emergency ward, doctors worked through the night to try and pull her back from the brink.

By Saturday evening, local police were still hunting high and low for the husband. Down at the local teashops, neighbors were shaking their heads over the news, saying there is never any excuse to take a knife to your own wife. With the police keeping a close eye out everywhere, they figured he wouldn't be able to run for long.
