Another day, another wild story on the streets of Phnom Penh. On Friday, a guy with a bit too much confidence tried playing high-roller on Telegram, pretending to be the police chief of Dangkao district to shake locals down for cash. Before he could even enjoy his hustle, the real cops caught wind of it.
It was a joint operation between the Dangkao and Meanchey district police forces. They set up a trap in Borey Pochenong village, located in Meanchey’s Chak Angre Krom commune, and hauled the suspect—identified as Sok Sovannvisa—away on the spot.
Sovannvisa is currently locked up at the Dangkao district police inspectorate waiting to face court. Honestly, online scammers these days are pulling every trick in the book, using all sorts of fake titles to scare people. Best keep your wallet close out there.
