Walking down the backstreets of Phnom Penh, the scent of charcoal-grilled bread mixes with motorcycle exhaust, and most people are just worried about today’s earnings and whether prices are creeping up again. Up in the higher circles, though, things are quietly shifting. Local media report that Cambodia is looking to smarten up its industrial sector—moving beyond brute force and bringing in artificial intelligence.
Under this new push, the plan is to weave AI and industrial internet systems into the real economy. Simply put, the goal is to help factories work smarter, not harder, nudging the current labor-heavy industries up the value chain toward higher-end production. Neighborhood residents might not know the ins and outs of artificial intelligence, but they’re all hoping for more factories and a steadier livelihood.
Figuring it out alone isn't enough, so the country is also reaching out for international partners to unlock more regional opportunities. Whether it’s tech or capital, plans are underway to pull in foreign investment, plant those technologies firmly on the ground, and build a stronger foundation for the future.
