The training center at Phnom Penh’s National Stadium was buzzing this week as the 2026 University 3x3 Basketball Championship wrapped up on the evening of the 18th after three action-packed days. Twelve teams competed across the men’s and women’s divisions, but Asia Euro University proved to be the night's big winner, sweeping first place in both brackets. The Institute of Technology of Cambodia took second place in both divisions, while Phnom Penh Teacher Education College finished third across the board.
According to local media, tournament officials said the event was organized to give university students a proper stage to showcase their skills, promote physical fitness, and scout fresh talent for both university programs and the national team. An advisor to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport attended the closing ceremony on behalf of the General Department of Sports.
It has been hot and sticky in the capital lately, but riding a moto past the Olympic Stadium area after work, you could still hear the thump of basketballs and the roar of the crowd spilling into the night. At nearby roadside stalls, players in wet jerseys were already cooling off over bowls of noodles and glasses of iced tea, bringing a lively, youthful energy to the Phnom Penh streets.
