Things got a bit livelier in Tonle Bassac on September 18 as LAVIA, a new four-star hotel, officially opened its doors in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district. Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng and the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia both joined the opening ceremony to mark the occasion. According to hotel management, the property features 79 guest rooms, an in-house restaurant, conference facilities, a sky bar, and a swimming pool. Crucially, the hotel has hired a good number of local staff, giving a fresh boost to the capital's hospitality scene.
Speaking at the event, Governor Khuong Sreng emphasized that City Hall strongly encourages legitimate foreign investment. The local government's message was clear: authorities will do everything they can to guarantee safety and security, safeguarding projects that operate legally. Officials added that as Cambodia continues its drive for economic growth, maintaining social stability while attracting compliant capital is the key to pushing the entire city forward.
In a neighborhood like Tonle Bassac—where motorbikes kick up dust along the streets and roadside food carts sit right alongside new high-rises—a shiny new entrance and bright lights mean a little extra foot traffic for nearby small vendors too. At the end of the day, regardless of how the economic climate shifts, real investment touching down and creating actual local jobs is what matters most to ordinary people making a living on the ground.
