Cambodian authorities have rounded up 733 foreign nationals across 38 locations in a recent sweep targeting online scam operations. Chinese citizens made up the vast majority of those detained, accounting for 648 people, with the rest coming from Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, Myanmar, Malaysia, and Taiwan.
Beyond the arrests, officials seized evidence from the sites and hit property owners and managers with hefty fines. To ensure these trouble spots stay under tight watch, authorities have also installed 55 surveillance cameras across key target zones.
Local media report that the government is determined to keep cleaning up the cyber scam industry while stepping up public awareness campaigns. With fraudsters constantly reaching people through phone calls, text messages, and social media, authorities are urging everyone to stay sharp and protect their personal information.
