Prime Minister Hun Manet recently announced that the Phnom Penh International Airport will be turned into a public park called "China Park," giving locals a great new green space to hang out in.
Back last year, the government set up an inter-ministerial working group to handle the transformation. Part of the old airfield will still be kept on standby for emergencies, which is a smart way to balance development and practical needs.
By the end of 2026, the park is set to host marathons and car shows that anyone can drop by and check out. The site already had a trial opening this past April, and the public response was pretty positive. With more and more events popping up around Phnom Penh these days, the city's street life is really starting to buzz.
