Mr. Sovan, who made the trip all the way from Bavet City with his son, reckoned that letting young people talk face-to-face with company bosses is always better than just guessing what to do at home. Seeing his son walk from booth to booth and ask questions, the proud dad finally felt a weight off his shoulders.
Ms. Sovan Sreyvy, a Phnom Penh local, also brought her daughter down to fill out application forms. She didn't mince words, saying events like this take all the hassle out of job hunting because every industry is right here under one roof, and you can sit down for an interview on the spot if you like a company. Youngsters can hand in their resumes and even pick up tips on how to write a good cover letter. People around the neighborhood are already saying that if there were more fairs like this, finding a job wouldn't be nearly as exhausting.
It is not just parents who are impressed; university students found it a real eye-opener too. Chantny, a banking major at Phnom Penh Institute of Technology, said the atmosphere was relaxed, and whether you are a recent high school graduate or a senior finishing up your degree, you can get a clear picture of what kind of talent employers are actually looking for. According to local organizers, around 150 companies turned up for this year’s expo, putting plenty of openings on the table. Now it is just up to job seekers to grab the opportunity.
