The Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Center in Phnom Penh has been buzzing with energy over the last two days as it hosted the National Employment and Productivity Job Fair. Tuk-tuks streamed back and forth outside, while streams of young job seekers—many in crisp white shirts—pushed through the doors clutching their resumes. Local media reported that around 150 companies and organizations set up booths, offering a massive pool of about 35,000 open positions.
Sophea Leakches, a management major at Asia Euro University, decided to check it out. After walking around, she told local reporters that the atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed. Not only could she talk directly with hiring managers, but she also got a clear sense of what skills employers are actually looking for right now. For students fresh out of Grade 12 or still in university, she noted, events like this are a great way to get a feel for the job market early on.
First-year law student Sreynim was also experiencing the job fair scene for the very first time. She shared with the press that despite only being a freshman, walking the floor gave her a reassuring sense of confidence—proving that if you want to work, the opportunities are definitely out there. Finding a job can be tough for young people here, but big fairs like this give everyone a firsthand look at market demand and help them figure out their next steps.
