Just recently, Myanmar's military leader, Min Aung Hlaing, paid a visit to Cambodia. He met with Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary. So, what did they talk about?
Local media reported that Min Aung Hlaing himself shared that as a Buddhist, his greatest wish is for Myanmar to be peaceful and stable. He believes that if the country is calm, development will surely speed up. His remarks sounded quite candid, like he was just opening up to an old friend over a coffee at a local spot.
On Cambodia's side, the National Assembly President's spokesperson, Keo Pisith, confirmed that peace was the main topic of their discussions. Cambodia, having gone through war ourselves, understands the suffering it brings. With Myanmar still facing unrest, there's a lot both sides can learn from each other. President Khuon Sudary told Min Aung Hlaing that in war, there are no winners, only losers. Women and children are always the ones who suffer the most. That's why Cambodia has always pushed for peaceful ways to resolve issues.
Min Aung Hlaing reportedly nodded in agreement, acknowledging that war truly brings no benefits. He added that as fellow Buddhists, both Cambodia and Myanmar long for a comfortable and peaceful life. If Myanmar can achieve stability, the country will develop quickly. He noted that it's the current political instability that's holding back development.
