Early on the morning of September 10, the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh welcomed a new face. Iran’s newly appointed ambassador to Cambodia, Akbar Ghasemi Ali Abadi, paid a special visit to Prime Minister Hun Manet. Shortly after the tea was served, the two sat down to discuss upcoming cooperation between the two countries.
According to local media, the Iranian ambassador stated during the meeting that he is keen to push bilateral relations forward and is looking for opportunities to cooperate across several sectors. Prime Minister Hun Manet offered polite congratulations on the ambassador officially taking up his post, saying he believes relations will grow even closer during his tenure.
Hun Manet welcomed the ambassador's ideas for exploring new avenues of cooperation and suggested that he closely coordinate and hold detailed discussions with the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation moving ahead. Out on the streets, everyday life carried on as usual with motorcycle exhaust lingering at the intersections; handshakes like this in the diplomatic arena are, after all, simply a good excuse for both sides to visit more often and talk business.
