Drivers heading out on National Road 76 in Mondulkiri lately might have noticed that repair work is moving fast. With parts of the road surface badly beaten up, the provincial Department of Public Works and Transport has been keeping a close eye on crews rushing to patch up the potholes.
Local media report that the repairs are focused on two main sections. The first is in Pech Chreada district, stretching over 4,700 meters, where asphalting is already more than half done. The second runs from O Raing district into Sen Monorom city, covering over 5,000 meters, where progress has topped 96 percent and is very close to finished. Even though work kicked off in late February against a backdrop of high fuel prices and disruptive rains, crews kept pushing through the wet weather to catch up on the schedule.
National Road 76 is a busy artery, handling over 10,000 vehicles a day—mostly cargo trucks and tourists. Connecting with Kratie and Ratanakiri provinces, the route is a lifeline for the northeast. Local authorities are reminding drivers passing through the construction zones to watch the road signs, slow down, and put safety first.
