Down by the river breeze in Phnom Penh, folks at the local tea stalls often chat about foreign investment. True to form, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia Sun Chanthol headed over to Xiamen, Fujian province, on September 9 to host a dedicated investment roundtable and chat face-to-face with local entrepreneurs.
He covered plenty of ground at the meeting—from Cambodia's peace, stability, and macroeconomic growth to its open-door policy for foreign investors and various government incentives. According to local media, he also laid out several strategic infrastructure plans and priority investment opportunities to show that Cambodia is ready to plug right into regional and global supply chains.
It wasn't just a one-way pitch from the government, either. Wang Shuangtao, Vice President of Wanlishi Group, stepped up to share his company’s hands-on experience investing in Cambodia. Hearing it straight from a peer gave a real confidence boost to Chinese businesses weighing whether to move operations over or scale up their existing ventures.
