Sitting at a Phnom Penh tea stall and listening to the table next to mine, people are talking about how much easier it is to get things done these days. Local media reports that as part of the push for a "digital government," various ministries and departments are moving their services online, making life faster and more convenient for everyday citizens.
"In the digital age, everyone is trying to upgrade their skills, and you can really feel the impact of these online public services," says local resident You Chanren (transliterated). "In the past, you had to travel a long way to a ministry or administrative office just to sort something out. Now, you can just apply online, which saves a ton of time and travel costs."
From administrative approvals and paperwork to business license renewals, everyday tasks are gradually moving online. This is part of the seventh-mandate Royal Government’s push under Prime Minister Hun Manet, who has made technology one of the five core strategies for national development—bringing public services closer to the people.
