Word has been spreading fast about the Golden Galaxy casino in Bavet. On paper, management claimed the place was closed for renovations. In reality, it was operating as a massive cyber scam compound. And it was no small operation either—sprawling across five hectares, the seven-story complex housed an impressive 769 rooms.
The exposure came right as Cambodia was preparing to host an international conference on combating cybercrime, with the Ministry of Information even leading a delegation of journalists to inspect the site firsthand. Police had already swept in back in April, shutting down the operation, arresting three ringleaders, and handing over 275 foreign nationals for deportation, including 25 Chinese citizens.
Local media covered the raid heavily, and the general consensus on the ground is that there is much more to this story. Around town, people just shake their heads when talking about the place, calling it a classic front job that has left the whole neighborhood on edge.
