What started as a routine check on foreign residents yesterday turned into a surprise raid in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district. Police knocked on a rental house in Dangkor commune, stepped inside, and walked straight into an active online scam operation, catching nine Bangladeshi men red-handed before they even knew what was happening.
Inside, officers seized six all-in-one desktop computers, 15 mobile phones, and a stack of fake US dollar bills. From the outside, the place looked completely ordinary—just another house down a quiet lane with the curtains pulled shut. Nobody passing by would have suspected a cyber fraud crew was working behind those closed doors.
All nine suspects and their gear have been handed over to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Headquarters as officers prepare to send the case to the municipal court. With local police stepping up door-to-door inspections across the city, hiding out in a quiet neighborhood to run a scam is no longer keeping anyone under the radar for long.
