It was peak evening gridlock when sudden chaos broke out at the street corner. By the time I squeezed my moto through the crush, someone was already lying flat on the pavement, completely still. The fruit-seller aunty nearby was shrinking back in shock, still clutching a bunch of plastic bags in her hand.
According to locals watching the commotion, a few people had started arguing over something before quickly coming to blows. It got violent fast, leaving a man knocked out cold right by the roadside. Local media reported that police and an ambulance eventually showed up and rushed the injured person to the hospital.
Tempers have been running high on the streets lately, and I keep hearing shouting outside my rented room every evening. Sitting at a local tea stall sipping iced tea, a guy at the next table shook his head and said that when you are far from home, it is always best to steer clear of trouble.
