Kep military police arrested a Chinese man carrying firearms a few days ago. The incident happened on an afternoon near the Elephant Roundabout, where a black Jeep with Phnom Penh license plates was stopped. There were five people inside: three Chinese nationals and two locals. When the military police searched the vehicle, they found a pistol, an M16 rifle, and a modified AK-47, along with six mobile phones.
Those detained were taken in for questioning. After reviewing the case, the local prosecutor decided that apart from a 36-year-old Chinese man named Wu Yanwei, the other four people had nothing to do with the matter and released them. Wu was not so fortunate. Due to illegal possession of firearms and indiscriminate firing, he was directly transferred to the provincial primary court.
Security has been quite tight on the streets lately, so driving a Jeep around is best kept low-profile. Carrying guns and roaming about drew the attention of the military police, and now he will have to explain himself to a judge in court.
