Early on the morning of September 12, the G-8 sector of Islamabad was rattled by a brazen daytime kidnapping. A foreigner—whether a tourist or someone based locally—was walking down the street when armed kidnappers held him up at gunpoint and dragged him away. The gang wasted no time making a heavy demand, immediately hitting the victim's contacts with a $100,000 ransom tag. Alongside the kidnapping, the thugs also cleaned out the victim's companions, making off with all their cash and several expensive smartphones.
According to local media, Islamabad police moved quickly. Relying on tech tracking and tips from informants, investigators tracked down the gang's hideout. Police then raided the Sihala police district, moving swiftly to execute the rescue. The victim was brought out safely, all nine suspects were rounded up, and the three getaway vehicles along with the stolen cash and phones were fully recovered.
To be honest, staying safe is always job number one when traveling or living abroad. With economic pressures squeezing people everywhere lately, desperate characters are always ready to take dangerous risks. This time, quick police action prevented a tragedy, but seeing someone snatched off the street at gunpoint in broad daylight is enough to give anyone a chill.
