On September 9, as the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum got underway in Lianyungang, Chinese Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong met with a familiar face: Myanmar’s Minister of Home Affairs, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae.
Skipping the usual diplomatic fluff, the two officials got straight down to business, focusing on the practical issues that matter most to people on both sides of the border.
Wang, who is also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, made China’s position clear, stating that Beijing firmly supports Myanmar in maintaining its domestic security and stability. As close neighbors, he stressed the need for tighter bilateral and multilateral coordination, particularly in cracking down on cross-border telecommunications fraud. He called for sustained, heavy-handed efforts to stop criminal syndicates from running rampant and to effectively protect the safety and interests of citizens in both countries.
In response, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae thanked China for its long-standing support for Myanmar's development and stability. He pledged that Myanmar will work closely with China to root out online gambling, telecom scams, and other destructive cross-border crimes, while ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals, organizations, and projects operating in Myanmar.
