A few days ago in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province, officials gathered to launch the new International Coalition Against Telecom and Cyber Fraud. State Councilor and Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong attended and delivered an address, showing Beijing's serious intent to team up against online scammers.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Wang sat down with Prak Saphonn, Cambodia’s Senior Minister in charge of the Secretariat of the National Committee for Countering Trafficking. Wang told him that China appreciates Cambodia's recent resolve and actions in cracking down on cyber scams, adding that Beijing will keep supporting Phnom Penh in boosting its law enforcement capabilities to totally root out the scam industry and protect citizens on both sides.
Local media reported that Prak Saphonn congratulated China on the successful launch of the coalition and expressed confidence and high hopes for curbing the global spread of telecom fraud. Down in the streets of Phnom Penh, people chatting over tea about these fresh anti-scam moves are finally starting to feel like those notorious scam compounds aren't quite as untouchable as they used to be.
