The situation is particularly bad in Poipet, where many public spaces have been taken over for scam activities. This trend is really affecting the local economy, and it’s disheartening to see. Some people suggest that a more comprehensive approach is needed, like diversifying the economy, to effectively tackle this problem.
On the other hand, Cambodia's Anti-Cyber Crime Committee has issued a statement reaffirming their commitment to fighting scams. They reported that from 2025 to 2026, they dismantled 663 scam operations, froze over $300 million in assets, prosecuted nearly 4,000 individuals, and repatriated 22,000 foreign nationals. While these numbers sound impressive, locals are hoping to see more tangible results in their daily lives.
