According to recently disclosed case records, police in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, uncovered two homicide cases while processing 50 individuals repatriated from Myanmar in early 2024. The fraud syndicate, led by financier Yang Liqiang, operated out of leased compounds in Laukkai by leveraging the influence of the local Bai family. Armed with purchased firearms and guarded by Bai clan militia, the syndicate imposed brutal, closed-door control over staff. Two Chinese nationals were beaten to death inside the park—one after attempting an escape to flee the relentless abuse, and the other for siphoning off fraud proceeds.
To conceal critical evidence and evade wartime chaos, the gang had moved key computer equipment and safes into an adjacent cave that plunged 60 to 70 meters deep. Investigators braved hazardous, oxygen-depleted conditions to descend into the cave with ropes, while also purchasing cleaning solvents from local shops to wash mud and sand off buried hard drives, successfully recovering 90% of the electronic data. Investigators have now established the syndicate's suspected crimes, including intentional homicide, unlawful detention, and telecom fraud, with the entire case transferred to Shenzhen authorities to support the broader prosecution of the Bai criminal group.
