Local reports indicate that Chinese fraud groups are rapidly expanding along the highway connecting Three Pagodas Pass and Kyainseikgyi in Karen State. Villages along the corridor are now packed with scam compounds, flanked by new restaurants, KTVs, and bars. These compounds maintain operations using cross-border Thai Wi-Fi, Myanmar military telecom lines, and Starlink systems, with several sites enforcing strict lockdowns that keep workers inside and locals away.
Residents note that the influx is driven by armed faction leaders in Myawaddy and Shwe Kokko colluding to shift operations toward Three Pagodas. Although the road is under the control of the DKBA, KNU Brigade 6, and allied KNLA forces, KNU Brigade 6 has not enacted any restrictions or measures against the scam operations.
