On October 5, the Malaysian Immigration Department raided an inactive resort in Sungai Lembing, Kuantan, dismantling a suspected telecom fraud call center and arresting 98 people. Among them were 95 foreigners—including 88 Chinese nationals (84 men and 4 women), along with individuals from Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Russia—as well as three locals, including the suspected property owner and two workers.
Investigations revealed the syndicate had rented the site for around 30,000 ringgit a month since June, operating for about three months. Off the regular power grid, the operation relied on generators and closed-circuit cameras, using 11 Starlink satellite setups to bypass local telecom monitoring. Staff worked 24-hour shifts with a base monthly salary of about 3,000 ringgit plus performance bonuses or penalties. Officials noted that several suspects had previously operated in Cambodia and Vietnam. All detainees have been transferred to Putrajaya for further investigation.
