According to Thai media on October 6, local villagers spotted two floating bodies—a man and a woman—in the Salween River near Phop Phra District, Tak Province. The victims appeared to be Chinese nationals aged roughly between 30 and 35. Decomposed after several days in the water, the bodies were left unretrieved and drifted downstream. Official confirmation regarding their identities, nationalities, and causes of death is still pending, and it remains unverified whether they had fled nearby scam compounds or perished in internal disputes.

Locals noted that similar floating bodies are frequently spotted in this stretch of the river. Across the bank on the Myanmar side, under the control of the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), Chinese nationals are still seen moving about and new construction continues. While rumors allege the group provides protection for cyber-scam operations, the DKBA has not issued any response.
