Chinese state broadcaster CCTV recently exposed the illicit empire run by Northern Myanmar's Liu family and its Fulilai Group. Operating alongside telecom fraud and casinos, the syndicate aggressively expanded sex and entertainment venues, trafficking and luring women across the border into forced prostitution. Private rooms for illicit drug use were specially set up to harvest big spenders from the fraud parks.
Patrons racked up single tabs averaging 50,000 to 60,000 yuan a night, netting the venue roughly 600,000 yuan daily. The saying 'earn in Northern Myanmar, spend in Northern Myanmar, take not a single penny home' was an engineered loop from day one.
