According to sources close to law enforcement, a G2 (military intelligence) captain stationed in Tachileik, named in Chinese-language reports as Aung Aung Maung, allegedly disposed of and sold more than 1,000 mobile phones confiscated from online gambling and scam compounds. The sources say he cited "orders from the strategic commander" to handle the devices and their records, and is also accused of working with a member of a local militia to write off and resell other seized items.
The officer reportedly led earlier crackdowns on illegal trade in Tachileik and took part in the so-called Regent Hotel casino case, where records involving tens of millions of Thai baht are said to have been wiped. With his transfer coming up, local residents want the authorities to investigate before he leaves.
For now, these claims come mainly from unnamed sources and local residents, and they have not been officially confirmed.
