According to police, the victim met a scammer posing as an "investment expert" in March, who persuaded her to invest through a fraudulent trading platform with promises of high returns. Believing the pitch, she transferred approximately HK$19 million to the bogus platform. Soon after, another scammer impersonating platform staff claimed her account was implicated in money laundering and demanded a "security deposit" to clear her name, prompting her to send an additional HK$2.5 million.
She finally realized something was wrong when more funds were requested and reported the case to the police on October 3. The case has been classified as "obtaining property by deception" and is currently being investigated by the Sau Mau Ping Police District, with no arrests made so far.
