Despite having no recent online orders, Ms. Wang dialed the customer service number included in a text claiming a parcel was held up in a locker. The scammer on the other end impersonated Douyin support, claiming she had enrolled in an annual VIP membership that would auto-charge over 3,000 yuan each year unless cancelled immediately. In a rush to cancel, Wang downloaded a third-party app and turned on screen sharing along with remote control permissions.
Under the guise of "account verification," the fraudster obtained her bank card credentials, payment PIN, and SMS one-time verification codes, swiftly draining over 10,000 yuan from her account before cutting off all contact. Police caution the public to verify delivery issues strictly through official apps and remind users never to enable screen sharing or disclose verification codes to strangers.
