On October 3, Thai Immigration officers arrested 46-year-old Chinese national "Ms. Zhang" at a condominium in Samut Prakan following a request from Chinese authorities. Zhang was wanted by police in Dalian, Liaoning Province, on extortion charges. Thai officials have revoked her residency permit and detained her pending extradition to China.
According to investigators, since April 2022, Zhang and an associate posing as an "anti-counterfeiting expert" claimed that several companies' products contained illicit substances. They allegedly threatened to publish damaging claims across Douyin, Weibo, and overseas platforms unless victims paid over 70 million yuan (roughly 350 million THB). Though she had entered Thailand legally and held a valid visa, coordinated cross-border efforts ended her stay.
