On September 29, Myanmar authorities repatriated 20 Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in telecom fraud back to China. Among those handed over was a fugitive wanted by Chinese police.

While scam hubs were historically concentrated along the China-Myanmar border, these recent arrests took place in Yangon and Mandalay. Authorities in Mandalay Province previously reported investigating 42 suspects across four online gambling and telecom fraud cases, including 23 Chinese nationals. As illicit networks have seeped into major interior hubs, joint cross-border enforcement has kept up the pressure, closing off attempts to hide out in big cities.
