On September 29, under the direction of Cambodia's Ministry of Interior, prison authorities alongside police, gendarmerie, and municipal officials transferred 1,837 inmates from the old PJ Prison to a newly established facility in Kamboul district's Prateah Lang commune. Officials confirmed the operation was completed smoothly under tight security.
The vacated PJ Prison site will be repurposed as Correctional Education Center 5. The restructured center will focus on rehabilitation, education, and vocational job training to prepare inmates for social reintegration, while helping ease chronic overcrowding across the capital's detention network.
