Frontline combat has reached the Shwe Zar Li bridge near the entrance to Momeik. Facing significant casualties and the capture of several soldiers, the Myanmar military launched intensive airstrikes on the morning of September 29 in a bid to stall the coalition's ongoing advance.
Momeik town had previously been retaken by the junta, but KIA-led forces now control parts of its outer periphery. Neither the military nor the KIA has released an official statement regarding the latest engagements.
