According to police in Seogwipo, two Chinese female tourists in their 20s were unlawfully detained and assaulted by five Chinese men inside a detached accommodation on the afternoon of September 21. The suspects seized the victims' phones and tablets, physically assaulted them, and forced them to transfer 100,000 RMB (around 20 million KRW) through bank accounts.
The following afternoon, one of the women managed to escape and sought help from accommodation staff, who called the police. Officers swiftly arrested two men at the scene and intercepted a third suspect later that night at Jeju International Airport as he attempted to flee. Two other suspects had already flown back to China earlier that morning. South Korean authorities are now working through Interpol to locate the fugitives, while investigating the exact ties and circumstances between the victims and the suspects.
