The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines recently issued a security warning, noting that local police have solved multiple kidnap-for-ransom cases targeting Chinese citizens, rescuing victims and arresting suspects. The syndicates specifically target young Chinese nationals traveling alone.

Perpetrators usually connect with targets online or pose as acquaintances, inviting them to the Philippines for tourism or business while offering to cover airfare and accommodation. Upon arrival, victims are picked up and taken to secluded locations where their passports, mobile phones, and valuables are seized. Gangs then demand ransoms from their families, and some victims face the threat of human trafficking.

The embassy strongly advises citizens to remain vigilant against online invitations, reject free travel arrangements from strangers, and avoid sharing itinerary details with casual contacts. In an emergency, dial 911 locally or contact consular protection hotlines. ToNanyang Heat Week|check in & spin for Premium
