During the raid, authorities successfully rescued 39 Indonesian citizens (34 men and 5 women) who had been trafficked to work in online scams. Four Chinese nationals involved in the operation were arrested at the scene, and police seized a large number of documents and electronic devices.
PNG Police Commissioner David Manning confirmed this is the first recorded case of foreign nationals being trafficked into the country for cyber fraud. Experts warn that cybercrime groups are increasingly infiltrating small developing nations with weaker governance, posing severe security threats to Pacific island nations like PNG.
