According to an update released on October 21, 2026, by the Russey Keo District Administration, local authorities are executing directives from Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng to root out remaining online scam activities across the area. A joint task force combining district and municipal law enforcement has been deployed to conduct ongoing checks, with a strong focus on tracking the entry, exit, and housing arrangements of foreign nationals.
The sweep covers guesthouses, inns, hotels, rental rooms, residential condominiums, and any properties where foreigners frequently gather. District police, military police, and commune-level administrative units have been organized into rotating shifts to monitor key sites. Field officers have been instructed to immediately report any signs of illegal border crossing, visa overstays, or premises suspected of housing telecom fraud operations.
Official notices emphasize preventative patrols and inter-agency coordination, but authorities have not disclosed any figures regarding arrests, seized computer equipment, or the nationalities of individuals questioned.
With the checks continuing across Phnom Penh, foreigners renting or doing business in the area should keep a valid passport and visa on hand and cooperate with inspections as required.
