The victim had been targeted by an impostor claiming to be Douyin customer service. The scammer alleged that an auto-billing service had been activated, requiring an 800 yuan monthly charge, and coaxed the victim step by step into granting remote control. Once the victim followed the instructions, the scammer had remote control of the phone and could move money out of the accounts at any moment, and the phone could neither be powered off normally nor have its SIM card removed to cut the signal.
With funds on the verge of being transferred, officers obtained the victim's consent and decisively smashed the phone to physically sever the remote connection, preventing a loss of 1.32 million yuan.
Remote-control scams are remarkably stealthy. Whenever someone claiming to be platform customer support mentions fee deductions, account cancellation, screen sharing, or downloading third-party software, hang up immediately. If a device appears compromised, immediately disconnect network access, remove the SIM card, call the police, and never ignore official fraud warning calls.
