On October 17, Thai immigration officers arrested a 37-year-old Chinese national named Chen Ping at a restaurant in the RCA area of Huai Khwang district. Chen was unable to produce a passport, and authorities found no record of him entering the country legally.
According to his statement, Chen arranged his trip via a Telegram agent and paid roughly 100,000 baht for the journey. He crossed from Laos into Thailand by boat before making his way to Bangkok.
Information from the Chinese side indicates that Chen is suspected of involvement in online fraud operations, though Thai authorities have not yet confirmed the specific details of any outstanding warrant. Chen has been handed over to immigration authorities as investigators work to trace the boat operators, drivers, and Telegram-based smuggling network that assisted him.
Crossing from Laos by boat is risky in itself, and paying brokers found on messaging apps is costly, with both migrants and middlemen potentially facing legal consequences once caught. For Chinese nationals in Thailand, legal entry and carrying valid documents remain the safest course.
